It’s no more news that Nigerian music sensation, Davido made history on the 27th of January 2019 at the iconic O2 Arena in London where he shut down the 20,000 capacity space and thrilled fans with his energetic performance, sprinkled with good music.What has really got his fans confused is why OBO’s lacrimal glands secreted uncontrollably after his historic sold out concert; he was actually shedding tears and we can tell it was that of sheer joy.In the video which surfaced online, his girlfriend, Chioma was spotted wiping his tears with a white towel in an effort to put an emotional Davido together.
Taking a look at how Davido made history at the O2 Arena with a sell out show, the DMW boss marked a pivotal point in his career on Sunday as he reintroduced himself by highlighting an important indication of his increasing dominance in the global scene.There are only 2 Nigerians who have successfully sold out the main stage of the 02 Arena space. While Davido remains the last entity to achieve that feat, his arch rival Wizkid did it first during his AfroRepublik concert in 2018. Meanwhile, a number of Nigerian artistes have taken to the smaller O2 Arena stages in the past.Prior to when history was made on Sunday night, January 27, 2019, many doubted if Davido will be able to sell out such a huge space. But at the end, it was another ticked box in the singer’s music career.”We rise by lifting others” is one slogan that has defined Davido’s blueprint over the years with his support of a number of talents on his platform and on his biggest night, he was yet again true to his words with a number of opening performances from his proteges.
The event kicked off with sets from various DJs including Tim Westwood and DJ Ecool who played some of the finest songs from home. From Mayorkun to Peruzzi, Idowest, Dremo, Yonda and Zlatan, members of his DMW crew and affiliates all got shine time on the night getting the crowd warmed up for what was to come.The highlight of the event was the introduction of Davido by award-winning and the most sexiest man alive, Idris Elba who was a special guest. The mammoth crowd were trilled by OBO as the hit maker made it to the biggest stage on a suspended platform to the thunderous cheers of teeming fans.Kicking off with ‘Aye’, Davido’s energetic performance and stage management prowess must have outshone the expectations of those gathered to watch the ’30 Billion Gang’ president.Davido served fans back to back with his long list of hit songs that of course kept fans dancing and lip-syncing. Songs like Dami Duro, Fia, If, Assurance among others.There was sheer love in the air as Davido brought his girlfriend Chioma on-stage, treating fans present with an exclusive view of his passionate kiss to the beautiful Chef.The crowd who were well versed with the line up of his songs sang loudly to every one in what was a very charged atmosphere and Davido’s energetic set matched the energy from the audience.In his manner, Davido as well surprised fans as he brought Jamaican superstar, Popcaan on stage to sing along with him.All these we believe were the main reason why those tears rained down from his eyes at the backstage a few minutes after the show was over. It was tears of joy and each drop of them spoke volumes.The much anticipated concert indeed was how he had pictured it, perhaps even better, Davido had not only sold out the O2 Arena, but he had also left his mark at the historic British venue.
